Minibus Drivers Course

Induction or Refresher courses for Minibus Drivers

Advanced Training Services do not offer training for drivers to acquire a D1 (minibus) entitlement on their license, i.e. to sit a test with the Government. We suggest you look through your local Yellow Pages and find a provider offering the D or D1 training. Make sure you are dealing with the provider (who have the vehicles and trainers) and not with a third party broker!

We can arrange the MiDAS on-site Induction or Refresher courses for your minibus drivers, subject to you having the required facilities (minibus and training room) and reasonable numbers, usually at least six.

Here are a couple of photo’s showing one of my team training course members on how to safely assist wheelchair users onto and off a minibus…

Once we have the details we can devise with you a fixed price and cost effective solution to your driver training needs.

A supplement to cover the trainers travel and accommodation costs may be payable for on-site training, but your organisation will save on the time and travel costs of your drivers.

MiDAS for minibus drivers comes in two forms – Standard and Accessible. Standard refers to a fully seated minibus, such as may be used by a main stream school. Accessible would refer to a vehicle that had facilities to enable a wheelchair user to board and alight using a passenger lift or ramp, and specialist equipment to secure both the user and their wheelchair.

All drivers do a half day general theory session, followed by a multiple choice theory assessment. Drivers of accessible minibuses do an additional half day theory and practical session, followed by a multiple choice theory assessment plus a practical assessment of their ability to use the accessible features of the vehicle safely.

The final element, again for all minibus drivers, is an on-road assessment of their driving.

For a MiDAS certificate to be issued all the applicable sessions need to be attended and the assessments passed, although facilities exist to enable re-takes where this is needed. Every attempt is made to try and achieve this during the course, however if it requires another visit by the trainer this may incur additional costs.
