Course for Car And MPV Observers

If an organisation decides to have an in-house training programme we can arrange a course for a MiDAS Car & MPV Observer.

The course will be either three days, for a Standard Observer, or four days for an Accessible Observer. The term Observer stems from the fact that, although training takes place in the classroom, on the road, for legal reasons, we observe their drive.

Elements covered for all Observers include an on-road assessment, where we would expect an above average drive, three days of theory/practical training followed by multiple choice theory assessments and a presentation skills assessment.

This prepares the Observer to discuss a range if issues with their drivers, either in a small group or individually, and topics covered include:

Defensive Driving

Legal Responsibilities of Drivers

Passenger Safety

Passenger Awareness

Child Passenger Safety

Manual Handling Awareness

Health and Safety Awareness

Emergency Procedures

Personal Safety for Drivers

Where the drivers use wheelchair accessible vehicles the Observer would do an additional day and cover topics that include:

Safe use of Passenger Lifts or Ramps

Correct use of Wheelchair Tie-downs and Passenger Safety Belts

Safety for Passengers who travel in their wheelchairs

These sessions are followed by an additional theory assessment and a practical assessment of their ability to use the accessible features of the vehicle.

The Observer, when they have successfully passed the various assessments, would also be issued with a comprehensive manual and a CD-ROM with all the required training resources.
